These independent surveys help me stay informed on your priorities and ensure diverse voices guide our work. Please note: This survey is conducted solely by me and does not represent the official position of the full CUSD Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This summer the Board will consider CSBA-recommended changes to&nbsp;<strong>Board Policy 9200, &#8220;Limits of Board Member Authority&#8221;<\/strong>, and I&#8217;d like your input before I vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The principle behind the policy is sound \u2014 a school board acts as a unit, and individual members shouldn&#8217;t direct staff or seek special treatment. Two of the proposed changes, though, may go further than that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A board member who is also a parent would have to notify the Superintendent before observing or volunteering in their own child&#8217;s classroom, and get sign-off before raising certain concerns about their own child.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An individual member could not respond &#8220;substantively&#8221; to a constituent&#8217;s concern beyond acknowledging receipt \u2014 even to understand it or follow up on whether policy was followed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are reasonable arguments on both sides, and I&#8217;ve tried to lay them out fairly.
