Ensuring Quality Education Through Transparency and Accountability (10/10/2024)

Good evening, board members and staff,

My name is Long Jiao, and I am running for the CUSD board.

In my previous remarks, I emphasized that residents are the true owners of our school district by paying taxes to fund it. In return, the district must provide quality education.

Our school district, much like a company, offers a product: classroom instruction. Ensuring the quality of this product is paramount. Unlike machines, our instructions are delivered by teachers, making quality control even more crucial. We value each teacher’s unique style, which enriches our district’s diversity. However, it’s essential that all instructions adhere to the adopted curriculum to consistently achieve our students’ educational goals, regardless of the classroom.

We should also encourage teachers to experiment with new instructional methods. These experiments must be carefully designed and fully transparent to students and parents before enrollment, with participation being opt-in. Setting the right expectations is key; we must avoid surprising students and parents. If such surprises occur, it indicates a failure in quality control or communication.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
