The new California Math Framework – Survey #16

My name is Long Jiao, and as a member of the Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) Board of Education, I am dedicated to building stronger connections with our community through transparent communication and feedback opportunities. These independent surveys help me stay informed on your priorities and ensure diverse voices guide our work. Please note: This survey is conducted solely by me and does not represent the official position of the full CUSD Board.

As of November 6, 2025, the state officially finalized its list of 64 approved math programs designed to align with the 2023 California Mathematics Framework (CMF). This marks a major shift away from traditional math instruction, moving toward a model the state calls “Equity and Excellence.”

While the state process is complete, the decision-making now moves to local districts. Although a formal adoption process may not begin immediately, I believe it is vital that we start a conversation now about these new instructional philosophies—such as “Inquiry-Based Learning,” “Big Ideas,” and the new UC/CSU stance on Data Science pathways.
